Apprenticeship Week Traditional Building Skills Demonstrations

apprentice week

K Construction in association with Edinburgh’s Telford College took part in a two day event featuring demonstrations of traditional building skills.

The event was open to all members of the public and was part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week.  Demonstrations by apprentices in masonry, slate roofing, joinery and painting and decorating ran for two days at St Andrews square.

Jordan Mackay who has been shortlisted for the apprentice of the year, manned our stall with one of our sash windows on display. The event had extensive media coverage and here he is pictured demonstrating the simplex system to Linlithgow MSP Fiona Hyslop.

The event was a showcase for the work of apprentices within the traditional skills sector and highlight the importance of traditional building skills.

Organised in partnership with Historic Scotland, Construction Skills in Scotland, Edinburgh College, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, Edinburgh World Heritage Trust, the Painting and Decorating Association, the Stone Federation of Great Britain, the City of Edinburgh Council and the National Specialist Contractors Council.
